I knew Madhushree as an A R Rahman favorite. Remember the name from Kabhi Neem Neem of Yuva, but she never sang too much, though keeping on registering her presence. And this time she does it again, gets her presence felt in her first (I guess) private album, Kuch Pal.

The album starts with ‘Hero‘ which sounds like a song of ’90s, but Madhushree’s voice is perfect for the song and the song is lovable, even with the oldy music. Tale Spin’s rap is nothing too great, but doesn’t disturb the flow of song and in due times gets mixed into the song. Like.

The next song, Chal Kuchh Pal, the title song of the album, is again a slow number but the arrangements don’t sound old like they did in the first one. An okay one that would again sound better every time you listen to it.

The third song, Ishq ne aisa is a good one as the composition, though slow, is easy, simple and still lovely. The lyrics of the romantic number are good, though the words ‘ishq ne aisa shankh bajaya’ were a bit confusing to my ears. Still, the song featuring Sachin Tyagi, is nice. Do listen to this one if you’re one for slow, ghazal-ish-ly old sounding love songs.

The next song, Pal, starts with some lovely keys on Piano with percussion entering the song in style while Madhushree sings pal har pal, mere saath chal, jaana na mujhse tu aage nikal. Besides the lyrics, the song is a lovely mixture of simple arrangements of instruments.

Shabnami, though, was one song of the album where I thought the composition was okay but Madhushree sounded a bit uncomfrotable with the song, or maybe just not the right choice for the song. Okay.

The next song, Tum bhi ek Baar is a lovely one mostly based on Tabla, while the background has a jazzy touch. A beautiful combination of lyrics, singing, tabla and saxophone. Do listen to this one.

Aaj ki raat is a ghazal with a modern touch, and though the extra additions are not so good, the main ghazal is well composed and sung, well enough to be liked at least.

Jaane Kya Hua featuring composer Robby Badal is a lovely composition that sounds good right from the start where Madhushree sings almost an unplugged and then moves to some slowly falling beats. The slow number gives a good chance to the singer and she does her job quite wonderfully.

The last song is a Tamil version of Hero but the track is so interesting that I fell again for the song in the first twenty seconds itself when there was no language spoken one. I probably wouldn’t mind listening to the song in Tamil a few times as well, though I hardly understand a word there.

Overall, Madhushree’s Kuch Pal is something to look for if you like slow, slightly old sounding songs. While the compositions and arrangements are not old everywhere and have some new and interesting things as well, a touch and tendency towards the old music is there in the album, that probably suits Madhushree’s voice well. The album is definitely good and can prove one for your long term collection depending on your tastes.

Although it isn’t everyday we get to hear Madhushree’s sweet, mellifluous voice, her songs “Kabhi Neem Neem” from Yuva, “Tu Bin Bataye” from Rang De Basanti, “Hum Hain Iss Pal Yahaan” from Kisna, “Mahi Ve” from Kal Ho Na Ho, “In Lamhon Ke Daman Mein” from Jodhaa Akbar, “Sau Janam” from What’s Your Raashee?, “Yaar Mila Tha Saiyaan” from Blue, and “Pal Pal Hai Bhaari” from Swades are remembered and listened to fondly by Bollywood music fans. Launched by filmmaker Subhash Ghai, her second album, Kuch Pal is finally out. Here’s the rundown of the nine compositions by her husband Robby Badal who also composed her debut album Lagi Lagan earlier.

“Hero” featuring Tale Spin does sound a bit dated, especially since using the word “hero” in song lyrics is old-fashioned. The rap by Tale Spin seems out of place, too. However, the use of the strings is nice and the simple percussion arrangements and melody is easy on the ears. Lyrics by Satyendra Khare build up upon the concept of a girl adoring her lover—“Meri har chaah mei eh sanam tum ho, Meri har khwaab mei eh sanam tum ho.” There is also a Tamil Version of this song with lyrics by Dinesh Scaran.

”Chal Kucch Pal” is a laid back composition. The pace is very slow and the soft rock feel is nice to chill out to. Tanveer Ghazi’s lyrics are ordinary, though—“Chal kuch pal mere saath chal…Shaayad yeh lamhe phir aaye naa kal.”

“Ishq Ne Aisa” featuring Sachin Tyagi has a more somber yet very lovely melody. The incorporation of the flute and saxophone is creative. Madhushree sings all the notes perfectly, however Sachin Tyagi could have (and should have) easily been replaced by a better male vocalist. This time around Tanveer Ghazi’s lyrics actually make an impact—“Ishq ne aisaa shankh bajaayaa goonj uthi tanhaayi meri. Dhoop se har deewar pe teraa naam likhey parchaayi meri.”

”Pal” follows in suit of “Chal Kuch Pal” and even Shyam Raj’s lyrics fail to offer anything innovative—“Pal har pal mere saath chal, Jaanaa naa mujhse tu aage nikal.” The piano stands out in this song, and overall, the composition maintains a soft, steady pace.

While the mood and lyrics of “Shabnami” are upbeat, surprisingly Madhushree’s voice does not convey these emotions too well—the song could have been rendered with more feel. Even the techno sounds and electric guitar sound forced—a case of forced fusion, I guess. Tanveer Ghazi’s lyrics are also ordinary—“Tu zubaan se mujhe jo nahin keh saka teri dhadkan woh baatein bataati rahey.”

“Tum Bhi Ekbaar” is the strongest composition in Kuch Pal. The use of the strings, saxophone, and tabla arrangements are fused together wonderfully, and Madhushree sings this composition with a seductive tone. Sardar Anjum’s lyrics certainly stand out—“Tum bhi ek baar mujhe dost banaakar dekho, Apni khusboo meri khusbhoo mei milaakar dekho…Shamaa ki taraah mujhe aag lagaa kar dekho.”

While the saarangi sounds quite beautiful in “Aaj Ki Raat,” the choral vocal percussions are unnecessary. Nonetheless, it is a decent track. Niren Bhatt’s lyrics are seductive and build upon feelings of passion, desire and longing—“Aaj ki raat mujhe hadh se guzar jaane de, Tere saanson ke samundar mei utar jaane de.”

”Jane Kya Hua” featuring Robby Badal explores the more melancholic phase of the love cycle—heartbreak. The piano arrangement is good and Robby Badal provides decent backing vocals. Tanveer Ghazi’s lyrics question what went wrong in a relationship, although it sounds a bit clichéd—“Ek aandhi si aayi sab khushiyaan le gayi.”

Romantic songs are what Madhushree excels at, and Kuch Pal explores the different moods and moments of love and romance. While “Hero” and “Shabnami” are ordinary, the album does boast of some memorable compositions such as “Ishq Ne Aisa,” and “Tum Bhi Ekbaar.” Even the remaining compositions are quite easy on the ears.

Nammakameeyara is the only track in this soundtrack that I went back to instantaneously after the first listening. Despite slight traces of Aparanji Madanude [Merupu Kalalu] in the opening portions and overall lyrical essence of O Paalanhaare [Lagaan] this is a strikingly soothing prayer track in a magical confluence of gifted voices like Chitra and Madhushree. Wonder what kind of contribution Harini made to this track for she is barely audible. Worldwide Music to release patriotic album Vande Mataram

It has been a while since patriotic albums have not been touched upon but now that thirst among the patriotic music lovers seems to be quenched. The Worldwide Music is all set to release patriotic album Vande Mataram which encompasses six tracks of varied flavours of patriotic songs.

Singer Madhushree confirms the news and says, “Vande Mataram is a patriotic album which has six tracks. I have sung four songs in the album along with Sukhwinder Singh and music director Robby Badal who has also sung. It was a fabulous experience working on the album.”

On asking which is her favourite song in the album, she explains, “From the album, I liked the track which describes the India-Pakistan relationship which has been a matter of concern from a long time now. I don’t remember the title of the track. However, when I was singing the track I could feel the emotions which couldn’t be explained,” signs off.

The album Vande Mataram is expected to release on Republic day which she says would be a perfect gift to the Indian citizens from them.

After the Blue Theme, Yaar Mila Tha has got to be my favorite track from Blue. It’s one of the strongest compositions—no wonder Rahman chooses two very gifted singers—Madhushree and Udit Narayan—for this song. Ujjayinee Roy, Shi Millhouse, and Raven Millhouse are credited with backing vocals. Abbas Tyrewala really excels in providing fun “roothaa-roothi” “chhedd-chaad” lyrics. Just take a look at these lines:

When I heard Udit Narayan sing the word "khote" I couldn't help but giggle. The song is just so sweet and playful naa yaar! The electronic shehnaai sound is really fun to listen to and so are the “taa teenaa teen teen teenaa” chorus vocals. The percussion arrangements are perfect. Both Madhushree and Udit Narayan really get into the song, which is nice since these days most singers sing without any feel.

Udit Narayan makes a comeback to the playback scene after quite a while with ‘Yaar Mila Tha’. He is joined by Madhushree, whose cinnamon flavoured honeyed voice is a perfect foil for his flat sweetness. Somewhere between hip-hop, reggae and masala, this track hangs in the balance, waiting to be leavened with the addition of some spunky jhatkas. At the start, one starts to wonder if the track is going to be any good, but as the song starts progressing, second-by-second, and the beats start, you will be completely blown away by the feel of the song. The arrangements yet again are something to talk about – watch out for the synthesized Shehnai, and the delicate piano in the background. The beats are eclectic and electrifying, and, coupled with the percussions, make for just the right sound and that rare experiment which clicks, and keeps growing over you after each listen.

There is a complete departure though in 'Yaar Mila Tha' that is an out and out fun-n-naughty number. In fact one wonders why did the song have to arrive so late in the day since it carried enough potential to be there at the top of the album. It is refreshing to hear Udit Narayan in this number that has Madhushree sounding so close to Alka Yagnik that one is tempted to check the credit details on the album cover. A fun outing between a married couple, 'Yaar Mila Tha', which is written by Abbas Tyrewala , has a complete Indian appeal to it and just like 'Chiggy Wiggy' which kick started the album, this one too hardly sounds like a Rahman composition even though the background vocalists follow his school of composition.

To bring the album to a close, Rahman's ever reliable lieutenant, Udit Narayan, comes out of semi-retirement for this endearing 'ched-chaad' song that is sung in a cute conversational manner, and the 'madhur si' Madhushree supports him ably. The rocking and rolling rhythm is simply enchanting, and this combined with some international feel musical addendums in the background make for a lovely composition. The use of Indian musical instruments like the synthesized 'shehnai' and Western percussions and piano blend gently into the song making it a 'hat ke' experience. The use of Bhojpuri lyrics, along with Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi by the powerhouse of talent, Abbas Tyrewala, is unique and relishing. And we know why Rahman has called Udit out of semi-retirement (for the unaware, Udit is now of the top singer/producer of Bhojpuri films/songs) to render this song. Moreover one never knew that the maestro had it in him to compose a song that will strike right at the heart of the hinterland.

It was a bit disappointing for all of us, because we worked hard towards the single track, but we learned from the marketing point of views, that releasing a single here in India is not viable.

So we decided to do a wole album and this is a very good move. Apart from the one single track, we are busy making 5 more track in the same genre. All will be penned by Dr.Sardar Anjum and the music will be composed by Robby Badal.

Our goal is to finish the audio part by the end of this month and the marketing people are busy with the video part. The video will be obviously made on the 1st track "Awaz Do, Andaz Do"

Apart from Madhushree\'s and Sukhvinder\'s vocals, we will add some more singers in the rest of the tracks.

The releasing date is not fixed yet, but surely we will do it this year only as part of our tribute to the Kargil War Heros, which was happened ten years ago.

The single track with the youth awareness will be released with some other hit songs of Madhushree. The marketing team of the project could not agree to the single-track way of releasing an album. According to them the Indian buyers are not ready to pay for one track in an album and secondary the production cost of the album is the as the single. Only there will be costs of extra tracks to prepare.
As said in screen for the release of this album on occasion of 15th august, this will be postponed till another date. “We are busy adding more tracks in the album and apart from this the video director needs more time for the main track to finalize the video”, Madhushree added.
Speaking with the writer, Padma Bhushan Dr.Anjum, said that he is invited to Incheon Music Fair in Korea in September with Pt.Jashraj. He has already sent this lyric to the music fair of Korea.

She’s coming up with a single aimed at making the youth awareness of crucial national issues on the occasion of Independence Day. Madhushree, who enjoys a special rapport with A.R.Rahman, discusses both... and more

The idea for a ‘single’ album arose from Madhushree’s disllusionment with the response to her last labum Laagi Lagan, which “had eight good thumris”. “My album has a great response even internationally because of the modern arrangements. Six other beautiful songs went unnoticed because we made videos of only two tracks! So I thought there was no point in my composer husband Robby Badal and I working hard on eight songs if finally only the videos mattered.”

The album, slated for a release on August 15, is Madhushree’s mission to make today’s youth awaken to the serious problems our nation is facing, including global warming, water depletion, terrorism et al. “Padma Bhushan Sardar Anjum has written very stirring verse and the music is by my husband Robby again,” says Madhushree. “When I made Sukhwinderji listen to the song, he insisted that he would sing it with me. And as we know, he is superb at such songs!”

The singer who began with Rajesh Roshan’s Moksha in 2001 is singing in What’s Your Rashee? and some more films for young new composers and also for A.R.Rahman, with whom she’s been a special favourite - the composer even ensured that Laagi Lagan was formally released at his recording studio. “After Jai ho, Rahman is spending so much time abroad and we singers are missing him badly!” she says. “I came from a classical background, but it was only after singing for him in Saathiya, Yuva, Kisna and other films that I learnt how to be a proper playback singer, learning expressions and other aspects. He brought finesse to my singing.”

The singer adds that recording for Rahman is all about a “ghar jaisa” ambience. “I spend four to seven days with him only on absorbing and rehearsing the song. He is a very jovial and genuine human being.”
But Madhushree admits that the fun has otherwise gone out of film music. “Music waisa nahin raha jaise hota tha,” she says thoughtfully. “Yeh trend hai, theek hai, this will also change,” she adds confidently. “Also, I think that people like Lataji and Ashaji were very lucky because they could concentrate only on singing. Today a singer has to look presentable, go to the gym and do all those things besides looking at the musical aspect!” But she admits that being on television on different shows have been fruitful experiences.

Finally, is it easier or tougher singing for her husband? “I am more comfortable working for others!” she laughs. “My husband is more finicky and we argue a lot. But there is a plus side too - he makes songs to my scale!”

Although Madhushree made her Bollywood debut with a forgettable movie called Moksha, it took her some time to make her mark. She shot to fame with her adorable rendition of 'Kabhi neem neem' (Yuva) for which she won an award as well.

This year, she once again delivered a great song with A R Rahman. 'In lamhon ke daaman mein' is undoubtedly one of the best tracks on the Jodhaa Akbar album. In a tête-à-tête, she tells us how playback singing was a coincidence, what's special about her album Laagi Lagan, and acting in the future.

We heard that Rajesh Roshan got you your first break.
Actually, Javedji (Akhtar) introduced me to Rajeshji. He heard my voice, liked it and told me that he had a song to record which he would ask me to sing if it suited my voice and style. I was very scared when I walked into the studio, but I tried my best and he liked it. It was a good song called ‘Mohabbat zindagi hai’ from Moksha.

Tell us about your background.
I have a musical background. My father is a very good singer and I started learning singing from him. Then I learnt classical singing from Dr Omir Dayal. I never thought I would become a playback signer some day, although I always liked singing filmy songs. My father wanted me to become a classical singer. When I finished my studies, I got an opportunity to work as a singer in South America. So at a young age, I went there. After four years, I moved to Holland. Gradually I decided to take up singing as a career. That brought me to Mumbai, and by god's grace I got a chance to sing as well.

What do you feel about the competition in Bollywood?
I do not feel any competition and consider myself very lucky to have got a chance to sing in this era. If we had Lataji and Ashaji singing in our era, then you could have said that we have competition. Now it has become an open profession as there are so many styles of singing. Earlier there was only one profession of playback singing. Nowadays, a singer who does albums and reality shows also sings in films, which was not the case in olden days. This is a great time for artists to display their talent.

Why did you choose playback singing as career?
That was coincidental. A decade ago, I went to Kolkata to record a song. Sanuda (Kumar Sanu) met me then and suggested that I go to Mumbai and try playback singing. Even ten years back ago, the general perception was that if you have become successful in playback singing, then that is it. So I thought why not give it a try? But today I consider myself a singer, without restricting myself as a pop or playback singer.

You won the Sony Stardust Award in 2005 for the Best Female Singing Sensation for ‘Kabhi neem neem’ from Yuva. Tell us about that experience.
Honestly, I was surprised. I never thought that song would be so popular! When the award organisers asked me to come for the ceremony, I was a little scared; but I was jubiliant on receiving the honour.

Your album Laagi Lagan was released recently. What’s unique about it?
This album has a mixture of Indian and Western style, I have used thumri with contemporary music. Normally everyone uses Sufi style but I wanted to experiment with thumri, and I have received a very good response especially from youngsters. I have used old songs like ‘Ka karu sajni’ and others. There are two new compositions by Robby Badal.

Whom do you look up to for inspiration?
I have learnt singing from many people but when I listen to any song and like it, I get inspired. One name is surely of Rafiji.

You are a Bengali but have sung many songs in Tamil. How difficult was it?
It was a coincidence again. I sang ‘Kabhi neem neem’ in Tamil and it was a super hit. I practised a lot. I could not say no because they wanted to record it with the same singer in both languages. I somehow managed and then got many offers from south as well. Now I have taken training in pronunciation so it is not too difficult for me.

Everyone comes to Bollywood with a dream. What was your dream? Have you got any acting offers?
Good question. I have a photogenic face so I have got some offers but I ignored them all. Even Rehmaji has complimented me. But times are changing; my dream was to become a singer, but you never know what the future has in store.

Alright, before u have any idea on why i ever did a remix on that song, let me tell u this. ITS NOT A REMIX!! haha!

What i mean mix as in i did a mix between the voices, Bombay Jayashree and Madhushree.

As we know, Bombay Jayashree's verson was the one which was used in the movie, though Madhushree's version is the original number. So i have mixed between both the singers, as in as if they took turns to sing the lines one after another. Hi all there, a song from the album " Mutthirai", music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, whereby Madhushree sang a song called " Uyire Uyire" was credited to Madhumitha. Its a luck that i just randomly went through this song in a website and was shocked to hear Madhushree singing it. Ive check the audio cover of this album, and it was printed as Madhumitha. Hmmmm.... But well, the song is good! Hope not to see such mistakes happen in the future. :)

Singer Madhushree is celebrating her ‘Jjhoom India’ win these days. We caught up her in an ecstatic mood recently.Q: Are you feeling on top of the world?

A: I am doubly happy. Firstly, by God’s grace, I have always been winning in the competitions. Secondly, I am happy because this was the first time that I was teaching someone the art of singing. So I am happy for the fact that my teaching has paid off finally.

Q: Don’t you think you were lucky to have a co-singer like Sachin who is naturally a good singer?

A: Of course, I was lucky to have Sachin as my co-singer. He was always good in singing so nothing much was there to look after.

Q: Are you still in touch with Sachin and other participants?

A: Yes, most of them. I have family relations with Akriti, Sachin, Sudeshji, Mika and Sanjivani. We do party together.

Q: Were you a tough teacher?

A: Actually, no one was a kid here and so there is no question of being strict with anyone. And Sachin already has a refined voice and so I only taught him the technical aspects which were an easy task. But he was always an obedient student.

Q: Sachin said that off the sets you fight like kids, is this true?

A: Yes, we used to fight like kids. Many times we had tiffs over the selection of songs. But ultimately he was always nice to me.

Q: What are you doing these days? Taking a break or back to work?

A: Since the last three months, I was not doing much singing. I focused myself on ‘Jjhoom India’ totally. In fact I had recorded songs for my album before ‘Jjhoom India’, and now its time to shoot the album.

Q: Is there any moment that you will never forget on the sets of ‘Jjhoom India’?

A: There are so many moments which I cannot forget. All of us in ‘Jjhoom’ were one big family.

Q: Which one was your favorite performance?

A: I can never forget our performance ‘Hum dil de chuke sanam’. After the elimination every performance is my favorite.

Q: On the first day of the show, were you expecting to win this title?

A: I have never thought about it like that. If it was my solo show I could have thought so, but I was apprehensive about Sachin. When I heard his voice, I was 100 percent sure that we will win this title.

Q: Now that you have won this title, do you want to say anything to you fans?

A: I just want to thank them because whatever I am today it’s because of my fans. Madhushree would not have been here without their support.

Rahman‘s speciality is always looking to do new things. If a song becomes a hit, people try to imitate that. But Rahman always says that even if something is a superhit, it should be left alone and something new should be tried. I’ve told him, "This song was so good we should do something like that." And he replied, "No, you shouldn’t cash in on success like that." That, actually, is why he is successful.

From whatever I’ve sung in my career, 99% is for Rahman. I met him in 2001 for Saathiya and we started our association then and we continue: Kisna, Tehzeeb, Yuva, Swades, Jodha Akbar, Mangal Pandey and a lot of Tamil films. When he likes what I do for him he says in Hindi, "Behatareen!"

He is always searching. He’s very creative. He wants to work with new people, make new sounds, do new things. This is a constant search within him and you can see it. That has made him reach where he has. I am lucky to have sung for him but even in my songs you’ll not find two songs sounding alike be it Pal pal hai bhari or Kabhi neem neem, or indeed any film. He’s always giving opportunities to new voices -- that’s praiseworthy. He may not understand Hindi completely but his musicality is infallible.

When you sing for others, they ask you your range and pitch, but with Rahman it’s different. He is a technician himself and knows what I can sing well and works accordingly. When he does the final mixing, even your own song sounds different to you.

From Roja onwards, I’ve loved all his songs. In Pukar, Anuradha Paudwal sang a song kismat se tum which is my favourite from Rahman’s songs. It is in Raag Bhimpalasi. He utilizes classical raagas very beautifully.

His speciality is that even in films, the song is there for a purpose, it enhances the film. In this industry, there is a lot of politics and sometimes you think what’s the point? Maybe we should also be like the others but then I see Rahman, his simplicity and his dedication to his work and I realise that one should just work with focus. And your rewards will come.

Endhiran alias Robot, the magnum opus of Shankar-Rajinikanth-Rahman is getting chiseled in a perfect manner. Currently the shooting is happening in India after the initial overseas schedule. Though secrecy has always remained the keyword with all of Shankar’s projects, the visual, print and the web media have been successful in getting hold of information about the film in one way or the other.

The latest to come from the Robot’s stable is that a song will be shot soon at Hyderabad involving the lead pair which is likely to be Shankar’s signature number. Industry sources aver that this song will be choreographed on lines of Randakka in Anniyan or Azhagana Ratshasi in Mudalvan where aesthetic and creative minds went into work which took care of the minutest details in the frame. A song rumoured to be the title song for Rajinikanth’s Shankar directed Endhiran will be shot at Hyderabad. The song is a typical Shankar song where heroine Aishwarya Rai is shown showering her love on the hero Rajinikanth.

Remember the Vaaji, Vaaji, title song shot on Rajini and Shriya in Sivaji, showing the superstar’s heroism? The song was picturised with all Shankar trademarks of splendor, glamour and glitz with Madhusree singing to A.R Rahman’s tune.

Something similar in style with more richness and grandeur is being planned by the “showman of south cinema” Shankar on Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai for Endhiran accompanied by nearly 1000 junior artists, all of them wearing silver colored ‘Robo’ costumes. This song which was recorded recently by A.R Rahman was also sung by Madhusri.

It will be one of the most expensive songs in Kollywood, as the Robo costumes with thongs worn by the group dancers is said to be very expensive. It will be shot on a set created by art director Sabu Cyril in a Hyderabad studio, and will be a major highlight of the film.

Popular singer Madhushree has crooned a song for the movie. This famous singer, who is a hot favourite with music maestro A.R. Rahman, was recently at A.M. Studios in Chennai for recording a song for the movie.

The singer was at her cheerful best at the studio, posing for photos with the Superstar and director Shankar. Superstar Rajinikanth is also reported to have had a casual chat with the singer. The ace actor was hep and happening with a nice wig and a cool, clean-shaved look.

Hey guys, ive been publishing other websites and bloggers reviews on the song. Now i would like to share my thoughts on the song.

Sirugugal - Javed Ali, Madhushree

- I saw the Cd Inlay, and they credited Madhushree as Madusree. I'll tolerate that. Haha. Anyways, the songs is a very beautiful number, carried beautifully by Javed Ali and Madhushree. The song starts of beautifully by Madhushree's humming, followed by the powerful music starts right after she finishes humming. Wow... great work there Yuvan. The tune is very very sweet, and the lyrics is lovely. Music is very good, though the music's volume swallows the singers voice badly. U need to turn off your woofers (if u are listening through these high techno music systems) to listen to the singers.

Dun think any other singers could have pulled out a better show. Javed Ali sounds allot like Sonu Nigam here. His Tamil pronunciation needs some brushing though. But his rendition is 100% class. Would love to see him sing more in Tamil. We need quality singers like him in Tamil music rather than sticking to the usual Karthik, Benny and what not. We must not have this atittude of sticking to the usual singers. We need some fresh voices around. Javed Ali overall, is very satisfactory no doubt !! He will be the next most wanted singer around, mark my words !

Now on Madhushree. What ever im going to say here, is going to be totally bias, atleast that is what all the readers are going to think that, isnt it? Haha. Anyways, right from the humming, up to the ending's humming, she tottaly Rocked!!!! Her Tamil has improved allot !! Though at some part it does goes off, but i must say its one of her best diction. What is fascinating about Madhushree is that though she has no clear idea what she is singing in Tamil songs, she never compromises on the emotion section. Her emotion in the song was as if she is feeling and living the lyrics. Not many singers does that these days. As far as i know, only Madhushree has the power to emote the song 100%. Very impressed ! Her voice is husky and extremely sexy in this song. Its very difficult not to appriciate her in this song.

Overall, Sirugugal is a winner. Awaiting to see the clear results once the movie release.

Valentine’s Day is no more about spending time with your spouse, spouse-to-be or love interest. At least, that is what singer Madhushree seems to say. She spent her V-Day in a very special way -- with colours and a cherubic band of kids.

The singer, along with painter Amisha Mehta, spent V-Day with 40 kids at Kalaghoda. The event, a colour therapy initiative by the painter, was intended at improving kids’ creativity by letting them have a blast of colours on canvas. The little ones were asked to paint whatever they wanted on canvas. No rules or restraints were enforced. No restrictions regarding themes or materials. The result? A riot of colours! Canvases with smiling faces, capturing remarkable and unusual moments in smudged, spilled and happy colours.

Madhushree had a delightful time with the kids, doting on them and encouraging them to paint. The event also saw the participation of popular personalities like veteran writer Brij Katyal, DJ Neeraj and Brinda Miller among others.

Singer Madhushree is quite popular both in the North and the South. She has given hit songs in films like Guru, Yuva, Rang De Basanti, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kuch Na Kaho among others.

This event goes to show that V-Day can be enjoyable otherwise also. Kudos, Madhushree!

There was a mad rush at Inox, as the crowd wanted to catch a glimpse of stars at the makeshift stage put up at the entrance of Citi Centre. It was the audio release of “Sarvam”, produced by Ayngaran International films. The lead pair Aarya and Trisha met the press after the audio release. Director of the film Vishnuvardhan said the lead pair share a charming chemistry on screen. Music director of the film Yuvan Shankar Raja, cameraman Nirav Shah, producers K. Karuna Moorthy and C. Arunpandian were present.

The film has four songs, all written by Pa. Vijay. The best in the album is ‘Siragugal’, sung by Javid Ali and Madhushree. The lyrics of this melodious song is good. ‘Sutta Suriyane’ sung by Vijay Jesudas is the second best in the album. The composer has sung two songs: ‘Neethane’ and ‘Kattrukkule’. The former is better than the latter. ‘Adada Vaa’ is by Ilaiyaraaja, Kavi and Andriya. When you listen to the numbers, you can’t help but think, Yuvan could have put in a little more effort.

2. Siragugal - Javed Ali, Madhusree

From the very begenning of the song it reminds you of Rahman's "Guzarish", and what makes that more convincing is the same voice(Javed Ali) for both songs. Nevertheless it is a treat for the melody buffs, with Madhusree's sweet voice matching the mood perfectly. Had only Javed's tamil pronounciation been a bit better, the song would have been one among Yuvan's best melodies.

Sarvam is appealing

An almost Bhangra-esque beat begins Siragugal, rendered in a brisk fashion by Madhushree and Javed Ali; once again, heavy beats dominate the musical landscape. A deep satisfaction envelopes you as keep listening, even if Madhushree's humming is only mildly appealing. The charanam might follow predictable paths, but the startling background score and rhythm make it memorable. It looks like this one is going to top the charts in clubs; the jive-potential is quite intense.

This duet (there is a mild ‘machan, machan’ hangover in the number) flows like a wave - the male vocals go high and the lady singer’s voice softly negotiates the descending sangatis which are faithfully echoed by the string instruments too. A mood of mild sorrow is conveyed in the song. Could be a hit for the pleasant feel it evokes.

Siragugal (Javed Ali, Madhushree)

A terrific romantic ballet belted by the awesome Javed Ali and Madhusree. It is impossible to not like this soft song. There is a nice rhythm to the song.Javed Ali has to improve his language skills but makes it up with the right emotions and his natural ability. Madushree is very much a clone of Sadhana Sargam and a good one at that.

Sardar Anjum’s words are not only inspirational, but bring hope, a sea of emotions and of course, are significant to the moment — the grand curtain raiser ceremony for the Commonwealth Games, to be staged this December. Renowned poet and lyricist Sardar Anjum has written two heart-warming songs for the Games and agrees it’s an honour to write for such an occasion and country. Hum Sitaare is being choreographed with children by Shovana Narayan and Bansi Kaul and according to Anjum it’s going to be a mega event. The songs, smiles Anjum, have both purpose and the second one is on Delhi, which he loved writing. “I am strong-headed as a poet and don’t mince words and what’s happening around becomes the subject of my poetry. The second song is on Delhi and covers many periods and aspects of Delhi. First, the Mughals spread their wings here and then the English, taking away so much from our country,’’ rues the poet. And it’s none other than the versatile and soulful classical and playback singer Madhushree who’s lending her voice to Hum Sitaare Hain and performing live. She has been working with Sardar Anjum on an album of ghazals written by him and other projects too. “I simply love his poetry, for in the simplicity of his words is great depth and he leaves so much space for a singer. Lyrics is what the tune is based on and it’s essential that music and lyrics complement each other,’’ Madhushree who’s sung extensively for AR Rahman, loves the liberty that new music directors give to singers. For Madhushree, every song is new and is the best song, though high on her music metre are Kabhi Neem Neem (Yuva) and Hum Hain Is Pal Yahaan (Kisna). “I enjoy branching out and working on new things, like my album on thumri, with fusion and ghazals. Though I entered the film industry late, it’s been a fulfilling journey. For playback, I study the character of the actor I am singing for and then modify my voice expressions according to that. From Kolkata to Holland to South America and finally to Mumbai, humming her way into people's heart, singer Madhushree came into limelight after she sang Kabhi neem neem, kabhi shahd shahd for Yuva. Though her musical journey started way back in her childhood, her first break as singer in Bollywood came with Moksh. "Though I sang a number of songs, but it was after Kabhi neem… that I got recognition in Bollywood." Having bagged the best female singer award for the song, she admits, "I can say my real career as a singer started only after this song and since then there has been no looking back."

In the city for recording of a song for the 10th Commonwealth Games, she says, "I am singing the opening song for the Commonwealth Games. And its lyrics are by Sardar Anjum. He couldn't fly to Mumbai because of his health problems, so I decided to come down and record here, as his presence was needed for the song."

Sports and music are an unusual combination, but our lady has expertise in both. "Before I made my mind to take up music as a full time career, I was into sports. I am an athlete and till college I was regular in the sport scene. And when this opportunity to sing for the Commonwealth Games came, my sportsman spirit came to the fore and I was all game."

Having sung some great numbers like In lamhon ke daman me (Jodhaa Akhbar), Hum hain iss pal yahan (Kisna), Naina milaike (Saathiya), Tu bin bataye (Rang De Basanti) and Ek meetha Marz dede (Welocome to Sajjanpur), she comments on the brigade of singers that reality shows are producing these days, "I have also participated in a reality show, Jhoom India, but it had great competition and luckily I won with my partner Sachin Tyagi. But these days we have too many musical reality shows on air, and it's a repetition of things."

On the changing music scenario she says, "Definitely, it has changed over the years. Melody is there and would remain, but these days rhythm is gaining more importance. Songs have too be foot-tapping and as singers we have to evolve with the change as we don't sing for ourselves but for the public and this is what they like these days."

Having released a solo album Lagi Lagan, which has a thumri base, she says, "I was scared to do this album as I didn't know how people would take it. A number of people dissuaded me too, but then I presented it in a fusion-a semi-classical pop, and now it's a hit."

While our lady believes in quality then quantity, about the trend of singing good and looking great, she says, "The trend has changed over the years, earlier if you were a singer all you needed was a good voice, but these days you have to look good too. Though this trend sure keeps you fit, but has deviated singers from their real goal."

Ask her who's her favourite singer and she says, "Lataji and Ashaji are legends but I like Alkaji's style of singing."

Versatile, Madhushree likes to sing romantic songs and about her forthcoming songs she says, "I have recorded two songs for A.R Rehman, one for an untitled movie of Ayesha Shroff. I have also sung for a movie Chintu Ji and an album with Sardar Anjum is in pipeline."
